Is this really the Midwest??

Minnesotas North Shore runs 154 miles from Canal Park in Duluth to the Canadian Border.

There are tons of stunning stops along the way for opportunities to hike, kayak, rock hound, or just relax on the beach.

📍Caribou Falls is located near Silver Bay, about 70 miles from Duluth. This is a short 1.18 put and back hike that takes you through the woods and to the falls. The Superior Hiking Trail is also nearby if you’re wanting a longer hike. Just follow the signs! Caribou Falls is beautiful all four seasons. In the summer, if the water level is right it’s a great place to swim!!

📍 Black Beach is also near Silver Bay. This is a very popular spot due to its “black sand”. The black sand is actually a product of taconite tailings that were dumped into the Lake years ago. Nonetheless, it’s definitely something to see and the water is always crystal clear.

📍 Kadunce River Wayside trail is a 1.1 mile out and back hike near Grand Marais. You can either walk the trail or the river if you have proper shoes. It’s beautiful and I believe it’s a little less traveled than other trails around the area.

📍 Mount Josephine is located near Grand Portage. This 2.5 mile out and back trail is considered moderately challenging due to its incline, but it was so worth it! I went on a Tuesday afternoon and I was the only one on the trail. The view was stunning.

📍 High Falls trail is located in Tettegouche State Park , about 1.20 hours from Duluth. This trail is 2.8 miles out and back. There are quite a few stairs if you go down to Two Step Falls (200 if I’m remembering) but it’s definitely worth the climb!

📍 Lutsen Mountains is a must see! They have a gondola and alpine slide to enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains and Lake Superior.

📍 Palisade Head is in Silver Bay, and one of the most popular spots to view Lake Superior. You can either drive (seasonally) or hike up to the view.

📍 The drive near Grand Marais is stunning! There are several spots where you can pull over and enjoy the view of the Lake.

📍 High Falls is located in Grand Portage State Park, which borders Canada! It’s about 3 hours from Duluth and 45 minutes from Grand Marais. This is the tallest waterfall in Minnesota !
