Is Ergotune really better than IKEA? 💸 🤔

If you’re like us, and you primarily work from home, you likely spend a good 8-10 hours of your day on your chair. New chairs were one of our first buys when lockdowns hit, and we think it’s one of the wisest decisions you can make not just for comfort, but to protect your back and spine. Here’s our review of our #9to5 chairs!

🪑1️⃣ Ergotune Supreme V1 🏷️ $599

During circuit breaker in 2020, my partner invested in the Ergotune Supreme V1 for $599.

👍🏾 Its mesh design makes it extremely breathable, a godsend in Singapore’s hot weather.

👎🏼 However, we discovered that a mesh seat can make it uncomfortable when wearing shorter shorts (a bigger problem for girls)

👍🏾 The adjustable features of the Ergotune (including the headrest, armrests and seat depth) allow you to customize your seating experience to match your preferences. It's almost like having a chair tailor-made just for you! 🙌🏼✨

🌟🌟🌟🌟 Overall, 4/5 stars – because tho its adjustable, it still doesn’t suit his body perfectly

🪑2️⃣ IKEA Markus 🏷️ $100 from Carousell

Because I didn’t like the mesh seat, I bought IKEA the Markus instead.

👍🏼 It supports my spine at all the right spots and has a nice faux leather cushioned seat!

👎🏼 However, it didn’t quite meet my needs for extended hours at the desk as it doesn’t provide lumbar and neck support and I get back pain over time ☹️

👎🏼 The lack of adjustable armrests also make it difficult to slide it under the table, so we decided to remove it entirely

🌟🌟🌟 Overall, 3/5 stars – it’s nice for occasional WFH, but sadly not good enough for extended everyday use

🤷🏻‍♀️💵 Is the $499 difference worth it? If you WFH and wear longer bottoms, we’d give a resounding YES! 👏🏼👏🏼 The additional support from the Ergotune really help to reduce back pain and discomfort, which ultimately helps with productivity (and also gaming 😂). But if WFH is just an occasional thing, IKEA works just as well for shorter periods!

Nevertheless, I’m still on the hunt for my ideal office chair with a nice cushioned seat. Looking at a secondhand Herman Miller Aeron maybe? Let us know if you have any recs! 👇🏼💬
