1️⃣ Common tile materials

Ceramic tiles:

* Are fired at a lower temperature than porcelain tiles

* Less durable than porcelain tiles

* More suitable for walls than floors

* Not common in tile stores

Porcelain tiles:

* Most common material in tile stores

* Durable and cost-effective

* ~$3.50-4.50 psf for Asian 60*60 cm tiles

* ~$7-9 psf for European 60*60 cm tiles

Marble tiles:

* Luxurious and timeless

* Durable with maintenance

* ~$15-25 psf for 60*60 cm tiles

2️⃣ Homogeneity

Homogeneous aka full-bodied (or half-bodied) tiles will not expose a clay base when chipped, in contrast to glazed tiles.

3️⃣ Finish

Semi-polished (lappato) or polished (levigato) tiles are reflective and can make a space appear larger. They may also be easier to clean.

Matte tiles are better at concealing imperfections like scratches and stains.

4️⃣ Slip rating

The higher the rating, the higher the slip resistance.

For wet areas, choose R10 and above or P3 and above.

5️⃣ Shade and vein variation

The higher the number, the larger the variation.
