Ever have trouble falling asleep?

If I’m still feeling too wired around 8 pm for any reason these are my go-to yoga poses as a yoga teacher:

Legs Up The Wall Pose (or supported legs up)

Helps calm the nervous system

Relieves circulation in the legs and feet

Grounding for the spine / lower back, and opens up the shoulders after a long day at your desk

Supported child’s pose (preferably in bed)

For the night-time version I highly recommend a pillow between the thighs so you can fully let your upper body relax and the hips to gently open

Releases lower back tension

Calming for the mind & body

Savasana on your mat (legs extended or knees touching)

If I’ve had a really busy day and I’m trying to force myself to go to sleep - it never works. Trying a laying down pose outside of bed (on my yoga mat) helps me take the pressure off of going to sleep immediately. It’s also a great way for the body to relax before you get into bed so you can fall asleep much quicker when the nervous system already feels settled.
