My go to cafe for pastries in Korea since 2018 🍞🥐

The iconic cafe near Bukchon Hanok Village, it is often recommended as a must try if you’re in the area. I’ve heard many people telling me that Cafe Onion is overhyped. While it has its weaker dishes, I’d argue that Cafe Onion is still a place with great pastries, as long as you order what I ordered.

🫒 Basil Olive Bread

While a tad oily, this was a flavour and umami bomb. Accompanying this flavour bomb was a soft pillowy bread. You’ll also be pleasantly surprised with some savoury sliced bacon beneath the layer of cheese and pesto which elevated the overall flavours of the bread. This was one of the best savoury breads I’ve tried and a must try when you’re here.

🥜 Pain au pistachio

The croissant was topped with a white chocolate top and topped with even more pistachio bits and that makes it top the list of pain au pistachios I’ve tried. The pastry itself was flakey, buttery and fragrant. In addition, the chocolate top lent a nice sweetness and crunch to the croissant. I also found a crushed pistachio mix in the croissant itself. I’d get this again when (not if) I come back

🥑 Mentaiko avocado

This mini baguette had little holes stuffed with slices of avocado. These little holes had some mentaiko in them and the top of the mini baguette was layered with some mayo. This unassuming dish was more flavourful than I thought and it surprised this mentaiko lover who was pleasantly impressed.
