This is something that I deeply regret, and has made a part of my poly experience a not as great one, and could have been better. 💔 These are things that I wish someone could have advised me on but I think that I didn’t got any heads up because such incidences are quite rare and are usually brushed off because the impact isn’t that big 😮‍💨 Unfortunately for me, it left a great impact on my GPA for a particular semester because it had a big weightage. I wish to share this with everyone, especially juniors or people who are going through similar experiences and have no idea on what to do, and you’re super lost because it doesn’t just happen to everyone. 😪

If you are afraid of teachers who give contradictory advices (e.g. did Method B, teacher advised you to do Method A, but one day asked why you did Method A because it’s bad and should do Method B), has a teacher who says that your whole project is great, but during grading, all the issues came out, here’s what you can possibly do to “protect” yourself. ⬇️

1. Record Feedback Sessions 📹

This can be a little difficult, as you are not supposed to record a private conversation. So do always seek permission from your lecturer or tutor if you could record the session. If they ask the reason for such requests, you may say that it’s for revision purposes, and in case you miss out on any important details. 🙂 * it’s quite a valid and good reason, and can actually help you with your project as well because sometimes we may miss out important information when we are scribbling down all the feedbacks and may not even have time to do so because you’re actively listening.

2. KEEP EVERY CHANGES YOU MAKE TO YOUR WORK 🗃️

This is one of my biggest regret because it can help to prove your words because there is evidence that you have made changes according to the advice that was given. If your lecturer or tutor does not allow you to record the session, you can do this instead, that’s the least that you can possibly do, and can keep track of all your work in detail.

3. Consult Another Teacher As Well 👩‍🏫🧑‍🏫👨‍🏫

It is always good to have a second opinion so that you know whether you are on track. However, this may not be the best advice because you can come off as a little disrespectful towards your assigned lecturer or tutor. 😅 If by any chance, there are two teachers grading your work that you know of, maybe you can try this and give the excuse of wanting to know both teachers expectations, and both of their thoughts on your project so that you can improve further, as they are the ones grading the work.

There are many great teachers and they are trusted adults, so if you are facing any issues in school and there’s a teacher that you can talk to, voice out to them for their advice as well. If your grades didn’t come out as you expected and it is way off your usual standard, do make an appeal immediately once your grades are released. Although it is said that most appeals do not work out and grades still remain the same, give it a try and get your group-mates to do that together. You may also write in to the school and attach documents if necessary (try to get your parents’ help from this as well).

This is something that I wished I knew earlier, and something I feel that not many people could advise on because they may not have encountered such situations. But if you are in my position back then, I hope that this could help you even just a little 😌❤️
