the first time i experienced a sub-zero weather, i was omw to everest base camp and did not expect it - and needless to say, i was severely unprepared and paid for it by being tortured. for one, my boots were for land trekking, not snow; and they were not waterproof nor high top. amongst many other fails, my ultimate canon event came when i had to trek thru 7 hours of continuous snowfall in these wretched less-than boots, my socks drenched and feet frozen cold.

the second time i landed in sub-zero weather, i got a lil smarter. i upgraded a few things here and there, added some new gear… - and still i overlooked one excruciating detail: i brought what was the heaviest moisturizing cream i cld find, and it *still* turned out completely useless against the subzero cold.

since then, ive returned to sub-zero weathers a few more times, (hated them all), but, continued to refine my packing process each time i returned. im amazed at how i’d always discover something new every trip, making my learning journey endless. for instance, during my most recent travel to Finland, i saw someone using battery-operated heating gloves?? like wtfffffff

for most part im not going to go into such detail in this post cos that’s a lil intense loll- instead, i’ll be covering more of the basics; think abt it as ur holy grail winter essentials that you HAVE to have… unless u want to be absolutely miserable and suffer when ure there.

call it what u want guys, but kiasuism works in such cases – and yes, my layering guide recommends that you wear TWO socks and sometimes even THREE pants. and just in case it’s not really last-min packing for u, scroll to the end cos im un-gatekeeping where i get some of my winter stuff frm: spoiler alert, it’s from aliexpress, and theyre super cheap (don’t worry if ure not on aliexpress. 90% of the time shopee has identical listings)

also full disclaimer: this post is not catered to ALL winter travel, but only winter travel that exposes you to sub-zero temperatures (i.e. 0°C & lower). for what it’s worth, u can still customise and apply these tips loosely if u’re gonna be in 0-10°C regions – but anything more than that, pls refer to other guides cos mine will def be making you overpack and possibly even leave you with a heatstroke.

cheers guys, and share where u’ll be heading to this year’s end if u alr have something planned! i’m personally not headed anw cos funemployment loll BUT, i’d love to be able to travel vicariously thru u guys so see u in my comments!
