I have always wanted to try Summer Fridays lip balm as they were so highly raved by western influencers and honestly I was so curious whenever they would describe the scents and formula as “delicious””amazing” or “buttery”. Like honestly my brain can’t comprehend these descriptions. Now that I have my hands on them, let me share with you an honest opinion if they are worth the price.

Price 💵: These are $33 each online and personally I feel that the price is reasonable given that there are 15g of products and one can last for really long.

Packaging 📦: I received 3 lipbalms (brown sugar, cherry, iced coffee) with the old applicator design which is thicker and fatter. I personally really like the old applicator as the curvature of the silicone hugs the lips perfectly. The 2 new applicator design (pink sugar & vanilla beige) is shorter, slimmer and allows for a more precise for application. Honestly, I want the old applicator back!!

Formula💄: The formula is thick and glossy, similar to Torriden lip essence and Klavuu lip mask. It is non sticky and feels lightweight on the lips. It is also tasteless which I really like! Before I tried it, I wondered if SF lip balm is just glorified vaseline but now I can say it is definitly not. It feels like a lip essence rather than squeezable balm and the product is watery and absorbable. Despite how the online swatches show the product being squeezed out like toothpaste, in Singapore’s hot weather the balm is literally liquid with a serum/essence texture. I like the formula and I feel that it is hydrating without feeling too occlusive or heavy. The selling point of Summer Friday lip balm is its specially curated scent that is unique to its brand. After trying out one scent, it makes you want to try the other scents so badly.

Moving on to the flavours:

🍨 Vanilla Beige

Score: 3/10. I find it scentless and colourless.

This flavour smells very vaguely of vanilla. Given that vanilla beige and vanilla (both have the same scent) is one of the most raved scents by people I expected more from it but honestly the scent was very weak and underwhelming. I sniffed so hard to find the vanilla scent but smelt the rubber odour from the applicator instead. Very underwhelming and overhyped flavour, feels like a scentless brown tinted lip balm which is priced really high. If you like scentless or fragrance free brown tinted lip balm, you can get this. Given how brown it was when swatched on my hand, it really does not show up much on my lips and the colour wears off really fast within 30mins.

🥥 Brown Sugar 🥇

Score: 10/10. I love the shade and scent.

This flavour smells like actual brown sugar! 95% similarity I would say. If you are curious (like me) go to your kitchen and find some gula melaka or packet brown sugar. It smells very similar but with a better twist to it. I have never smelt anything like this before so I love this flavour so much! It is sweet, rich, sugary, caramel, and gives my brain endorphins when I smell it. I can’t stop applying this product as I want to smell it all the time when I open the cap! Don’t worry the smell fades away 1 min after applying so you are left with the base colour without any excessive scent or fragrance on your lips which some people may not like. I really like that the scent is strong when I first apply and gradually fades away within a minute as I tend to not like lip balm with strong scents as the scent lingers on my lips which makes me nauseous. Summer friday really perfected their formula! Giving you the best of both world. I really really reccomend brown sugar!! If you are going to get one only, choose this!! The balm is pigmented and the dark brown shade is very flattering on asian yellow skin. I think it will look good on darker skin tone too! This is my favourite shade!

☕️ Iced Coffee 🥉

Score: 7/10. Not very pigmented but I like the scent.

Compared to vanilla beige and brown sugar, iced coffee is the least pigmented and its light brown shade does not show up much on the lips. Contrary to its name, it smells strongly of maple syrup. My first impression of it was that it smelt literally like MacDonald hotcake syrup and nothing like cappuccino or latte that people have mentioned online. This flavour is pretty controversial as it is very sugary sweet with a strong caramel scent which may be off putting. Personally, I love eating happy meal so I really like this hotcake syrup scented balm! 🥞 This is my third most fav flavour as despite the amazing scent, I wish it had more pigment.

🍒 Cherry

Score: 6/10. It smells and literally looks like cough syrup.

I am a cherry scent lover and I absolutely love artificial cherry scents but this product is not it. I know that it is really hard for brands to create cherry scents that is pleasant and does not smell like cough strup. Apparently, Summer Fridays tried and flopped. I saw several people review that Cherry had a medicinal taste and I was very excited. I had the highest hope for this flavour as it was the most pigmented shade. I would describe this flavour as cough syrup with a tinge of sourness which is not very pleasant tbh. Online swatches showed cherry as a vibrant red shade but it is definitly the lighting as in real life, the balm itself is a vibrant and luminous hot pink similar to our pink cough syrup. When applied on lips, it overlays with my natural lip shade and reflects as a vibrant red. I really like the shade but not the scent so I wont reccomend this as a cherry lover.

🩰 Pink Sugar 🥈

Score: 9/10. Not much colour but the scent is 💯.

Pink sugar smells like sugar cookies, sugary cake, sugary vanilla milkshake. It smells so good! Like nothing I have ever smelt before in my life. It is so crazy as when I first smelt it my eyes popped open. I thought I would not like it as it is described as a very sweet scent but it smells so delicious, like as thought I walked through a store filled with freshly baked sugar treats. It is a scent that is very addicting, like brown sugar and I cant stop applying it because I want to smell the sugar scent! It is a pinkish shade but pretty much colourless on my lips but I don’t mind! I love the scent so much and it is my second fav! I really recommend pink sugar too if you prefer a nice smelling balm without much pigment.

Overall, I think Summer Friday lip balms are all very different and it’s either a big hit or a big miss so definitly look at other people’s review before u decide if you want that flavour! Under natural light, pink sugar, iced coffee and vanilla beige looks exactly the same and pigment-less. Brown sugar is slightly darker and cherry is the most pigmented. My favourite is definitely brown sugar as it gives ✨Pigment✨and it smells so addicting. Pink sugar is a good alternative if you prefer balms without pigment. Some online review said that pink sugar smells the same as brown sugar but personally I think that there is a very big difference. Brown sugar smells more caramel with deeper notes while pink sugar smells lighter and more sugary. Both is very good and I think it is very worth it to invest in both! Iced coffee is fine i guess haha. Vanilla beige is suitable for people that like pigment without scent. Honestly cherry is the prettiest shade out of all the balms but the scent is just 🙅🏻‍♀️. If anyone tried birthday cake and poppy please share with me how it smells! I am dying to know how it smells!
