Last year I managed to tried out inbody analysis And it kept showing me 14-17% body fat.
You'd think I was happy right? On the contrary, I was worried because women need at least 11% body fat for menstruation and etc. I had been sick for 1 year in 2022 and didn't want additional health complications in 2023.
I paid $400+ for dexa scan and it showed my bodyfat was 20%! So yes, you can have visible abs at 20% bodyfat but this is also dependent on your genes as well.
After I completed the ncsf course then I finally learned why:
1. Inbody is part of bio impedance weighing machine and these machines analyse the amount of water in your body.
2. For the best results, you should take the analysis after 💩 pooping, urination, avoid eating, drinking water. The analysis should be done before exercise as well.
3. There is a error of margin. I tried af evolt the same day I had this 14% bodyfat and it showed me 18%.🤷🏻♀️
4. The industry gold standard for body fat analysis is dexa scan but even then, some people have reported inaccuracies as well.
5. I see some personal trainers measuring their clients every week with inbody. I find this excessive. Carbs will also cause water retention (about 1kg if I recall correctly). However weekly measurements are required if you are joining some competitions that require you to be of certain weight class. Otherwise I find weekly measurements just cause anxiety. 💩
So I hope my post gives people a peace of mind. Don't sweat(pun intended) about your inbody analysis.
I myself prefer using the navy seal method to measure my body fat with measuring tape. I also know I am progressing when I can lift more, eat more but still fit my clothes. 💪😎
