Solo travelling can be terrifying, but to me, there’s nothing that staves off burnout (and a broken heart LOL…speaking from experience…) more than a solo trip.

I’m a serial solo traveller — whenever I have the opportunity, I try to take myself out on a solo trip just to recover and refresh my mindset. Okay this may be partly because my friends are all busy anyway but hey I don’t mind it HAHAHA 🤪

I strongly urge you to take a solo trip if you can!!! It always gives me new perspective, no matter how many times I’ve gone and always reminds me that life is not about making as much money as possible and the 5 Cs of Singapore 🙃

Besides, a solo trip is all about you and ONLY you so you get all that time to yourself to process TRAUMA AND EMOTIONS 😚✌🏻

Perhaps one of the biggest reasons why I enjoy travelling alone.

I spend all day in art museums and I know it’s not what most people like to do! However, whenever I’m travelling alone, spending the whole day there is no problem at all.

Many times I find myself not voicing out what I REALLY want to do when I’m in a group of people — I find myself having to shut down my own hobbies just to accommodate the majority.

On the contrary, when you’re alone you don’t need to be mindful of other people at all. You get to do all the things you love and enjoy without having to compromise. You call the shots and it’s very liberating.

Singapore is so fast-paced and stressful that I often forget to look around me and enjoy the little things. Everything is so stressful that I just don’t have the time to take a chill pill 💊😩

It’s like life slows down overseas and you finally get the chance to breathe again and take it all in, slowly.

Small things like going to get coffee, walking in the park, people watching suddenly become so much more meaningful and precious.

If anything, I’m remind that there’s more to life than the paper chase that’s glorified in Singapore. There’s so much beauty in the world to be appreciated and slowing down and giving yourself that space helps you to realise that!!!

I’m terrible with self-confidence — I have no faith in myself and I’m super self-conscious to the point where it’s debilitating.

Solo travelling has led me to learn more about myself as a person and has fostered greater appreciation for myself and how much stronger I am than I think!!! 💪🏻😤

For one, I used to refuse to eat alone, but by travelling solo, I’m forced to get over my anxiety. I’m all the better for it — from the experiences I’ve had, I’ve learned to be okay with eating alone even in Singapore.

You’re pushed out of your comfort zone, but in the very best way.

Besides that, you get to be who you want to be without any judgement which I think is pretty refreshing 😌💦

Yes it truly be #LoveMyself babes ✋🏻

っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ Some tips for solo travel ♥

1️⃣ Plan, but don’t shut down spontaneity

The best part of a solo trip is having the freedom to make your own decisions.

I made the decision to stay a bit longer by ditching my train and catching the next one, and I don’t regret it at all because I got to eat the sickest schnitzel of my entire trip 🤘😮‍💨

2️⃣ Stay in a hostel

Staying in a hostel is great way to make friends + save money, plus it’s really safe especially for a solo female traveller.

I would recommend against staying alone in Airbnbs or couch surfing at it can be pretty dangerous for a girl. Do your research properly, of course!

3️⃣ Start small

When it comes to travelling solo, starting small can help build up your confidence and prepare you for longer journeys away from home. Especially if your parents are overprotective (mine aren’t so it wasn’t a problem for me)!!!

I’d go to a safe country like Japan or Korea, something that’s not too far away but still relatively safe just to get a sense of it.

After that, you can move on to countries further from home ✈️

4️⃣ Don’t stay out late

While I believe that most places are pretty safe, I try not to stay out after dark because it’s always better to be safe than sorry.

Try to be familiar with the area around where you stay and also to keep track of when it gets dark so you can plan appropriately.

💗

I hope you give solo travelling a go and I promise you won’t regret it! Will also do a follow-up on how to save for your solo trip hehe
