Hey Zesties 🍋!
I am in the midpoint of my 3rd trimester and I’ve breezed through 2nd tri - no wonder people say the 2nd tri is honeymoon. Most of my symptoms in my 1st tri also started to go away in the middle of my 2nd tri so I was able to eat better.
BUT HERE COMES THE 3RD TRI 🥊
I’ve heard that every body and pregnancy is different but what I didn’t realise how different..
1️⃣ Comeback of the Random Nausea
Just when I thought that the nausea went away for good, it came back all of a sudden in the first week of the 3rd tri. Then after that it went away for a while and out of nowhere it came back again 2 weeks ago. I now just bring a small plastic bag wherever I go just because I don’t know when it will hit.
2️⃣ Pregnancy Insomnia
Everyone keeps telling me - you should sleep more before the baby comes. BUT GUESS WHO IS HAVING INSOMNIA?! 🤨 It’s either I couldn’t fall asleep (even though I feel like my body is so tired), or I would wake up in the middle of the night to pee and then I would be wide awake 🫥
I am not even having caffeine on some days (and on days that I do, I drink max 1 cup in the morning). There was this one prenatal yoga class that I went that I suddenly realise that all the pregnant mummies in their 3rd tri were all not sleeping well.. I was like how come I’ve never heard of this?!
Even with the pregnancy pillows, it’s not being uncomfortable - I just can’t seem to fall asleep..
3️⃣ Travelling while pregnant is tough
I had my last work trip in my first week of 3rd tri and I didn’t realise how tough it was to be travelling. It was more about how uncomfortable it was during the flights - and how I keep trying to find toilets while on the go.
On the flight during the service time the moment the food came out I smelled the food and I felt 🤢 even though it looked good. For the whole 1st trimester I didn’t even have much food aversion so I was quite shocked by that too. Thank God that the flight was a short haul one, my back probably would not take it.
4️⃣ Pins and needles in my hands
I started having random pins and needles in my hands from 32 weeks onwards and I was a bit puzzled. I thought it was because now that I can only sleep on my side, my hands are under the pillow. I would try to shake it out but it would randomly come back so I don’t think it was from the sleeping. I googled and apparently it’s quite a common thing.. it’s called Carpal tunnel syndrome. I’m just trying to massage it out and drink more water to help manage it.
5️⃣ I’m starting to nap again
I thought when I entered 2nd tri I stopped napping because I wasn’t so tired. But since the start of 32 weeks, I started taking my naps again. I think it might be because I am not sleeping well through the night but also I think the body is just tired as the belly gets bigger. I also found out that napping is good for the baby and linked to healthier birth weight so if I can I will!
+1 weird one
6️⃣ Random patches of redness on my face
This is not exclusive to 3rd tri but I started to see this from the mid of 1st tri onwards that I would get random red patches on my face. It is very strange because I’ve never ever seen this before. It’s not like it’s itchy or it’s painful. I usually don’t feel anything until someone tells me about it. Initially I thought I had some allergy and I started to take note of what I was eating but then I realised that I really don’t know what caused it. I’ve asked my gynae before and she said that it’s not a big issue if it’s not itchy / painful. It is just sometimes a bit embarrassing when this random red patch appears from nowhere. I just hope that it goes away after I give birth.
Just never knew that there’s all these weird symptoms and things that happens.. Indeed every body and every pregnancy is different.
A few more weeks till I see baby and hopefully the symptoms are manageable! Cheering on all the preggy mummies as well! 🫶🏻
