Places to Visit in Maine

Are you taking a trip to Maine and want to venture outside of the Portland area? Don't worry, I have you covered. There are so many places to visit that will give you the "coastal grandma" vibe while visiting the state.

My number one recommendation is Monhegan Island. It's a bit of a journey to get there (1 hour ferry and a 2 hour drive from Portland) but once you make it to the island you'll see why it's one of the best places to visit in Maine. There are so many hiking trails to explore and lots of views to take in.

A quick day trip from Portland and you'll be in Wiscasset. If you've seen any food blogs talking about lobster rolls to try in Maine, Red's Eats will definitely be on the list. You'll want to prepare yourself for the long line to get the roll (can take up to 45 mins). Outside of food you can stroll the main downtown and shop in the local art galleries.

Another recommendation from Portland is Round Pond. It's right on the bay and has beautiful rolling hills and homes throughout. You can visit the general store or the lobster shack for even more seafood.
