You can’t have thanksgiving without green bean casserole. This dish brings so much comfort and keeps you wanting more.
Ingredients:
- green beans (2lbs)
- crimini mushrooms (1lbs)
- unsalted butter (6 tbsp)
- AP flour (2 tbsp)
- Evaporated milk (1 can, 12oz)
- Heavy cream (2 cups)
- French fried onions (a few handfuls)
- Rosemary (1 sprig)
- Kosher salt
- EVOO (1 tbsp)
- Minced Garlic (3 cloves)
- Black pepper
- Celery salt
- Oregano
- Thyme
Instructions:
1. Preheat oven @375F
2. Cut the ends of green beans. Blanch them in salted water for 5 mins, remove and set aside
3. Slice mushrooms and sauté them in EVOO, minced garlic and a pinch of salt
4. Once soften, remove and set aside
5. In the same pan, remove any liquids but keep the fond on for flavor
6. Add in butter to melt, followed by flour to make a roux
7. Cook it out until thick. Add in heavy cream and evaporated milk
8. Add in rosemary, celery salt, thyme, oregano, black pepper and a pinch of salt.
9. Mix it thoroughly and let it simmer for 2-3 mins
10. Remove the rosemary sprig
11. Add in the green beans and mushrooms. Mix well
12. Pour into a baking dish, flatten it out
13. Add a layer of French fried onions on top
14. Bake for 20 mins
15. Remove and cool for 5-10 mins
16. Serve & enjoy!
