Things I wished I knew before starting my 1st job

Whether it's your first internship or your first job, here are a few things I wish I had known before entering the corporate world! 👯‍♀️

P.S. None of these tips involve bootlicking or overworking yourself. It's about working smarter, not just harder. 🍑

1️⃣ Have weekly check-ins with your supervisor.

To me, this serves as a way to reflect on the tasks I've been assigned and the progress I've made. It not only provides a sense of accountability to yourself but also ensures consistent updates, reducing the chances of miscommunication and helping you avoid duplicating work. I typically allocate 15 minutes every Monday morning to update my supervisor.

2️⃣ See CONSTRUCTIVE feedback as a gift.

This may be challenging for some, especially if you have a big ego. However, viewing feedback from a different perspective can actually broaden your horizons, leading to both professional and personal growth.

3️⃣ Set your own goals.

While you may have standard KPIs, setting your own goals not only showcases your initiative but also helps you stay on track with your career direction. The most effective way to create goals is by applying SMART Goals.

4️⃣ Document your achievements.

They serve as a record of your progress and discussions, which can be valuable during performance evaluations or when tracking accomplishments.

Most of these tips require a system for safekeeping your documentation. In my case, I've found Notion to be the best platform for my knowledge management. ⚙️
