Yes, yet another solo trip. I surprise myself sometimes, with the amount of spontaneity and yolo-ness i have going into my 20s. The world is an amazing place and I truly hope that never dies.

So lets just dive deep into my rough weekend itenary together with my cost breakdown, all of which i slowly figured out as I went through with my trip, as I had zero and I mean ZERO concrete plans. But it all worked out fine 😄

DAY 1️⃣: (REACH KL, FITNESS CLASSES, PETALING STREET, CENTRAL MARKET, PETRONAS TOWERS LIGHT SHOW)

12.30am - Set off from Singapore, Boon Lay by bus to KL, Berjaya Times Square (Delayed by 1h+) (booked via easybook.com)

SGD $15

I highly recommend for everyone to book a first class bus especially when you’re doing an overnight ride to try to save time. My economical decision of trying to book the cheapest bus ride was pretty much a nightmare as a man on my side was (unfortunately) happily manspreading, and another man next to me was snoring and chocking on his snore throughout the ride. True bucket list experiences I can laugh about 10 years down the road, yes. But that also meant no sleep for me throughout the ride…Tragic.

7am - Reach KL, drop bags at hostel (Stayed in Mingle Highstreet, KL) - SGD $16 per night

Due to the delays in the bus arrival in Singapore, we I reached KL only around 7am, instead of the expected 5.30am, but for SGD$15, there was not much for me to complain about. I headed over to Mingle Highstreet, booked on Agoda.com. Situated centrally at Bukit Bintang, I must say this is one of the most spectacular hostels for a backpacker/traveller when visiting KL. Stepping into the hostel, you can tell at once that the owners and hostel volunteers/staff take pride in the place to make it the best that it could be. Walking in, I felt like I was in a rustic cafe in Bali with brick and wood textures all around. There are abundant areas for residents to sit and do their work as they oversee beautiful gardens and a swimming pool. For me, I washed up and took a quick shuteye from my terrible bus ride… hahaha

8am - Breakfast at a nice cafe (Ate at LOKL Coffee Co, food was decent but i would consider it pricier… ) RM$35 ~ SGD $11

Atmosphere was pretty nice, though it seemed targetted to tourists around the area. Nothing very much to add as it was just the closest one in the area open at that time, so yeah…

9am - 2pm - Spin Classes! $25

One of my goals for the trip was to try out a few classes at different spin studios. As a spin enthusiast, it was interesting to see the different ways that studios outside of Singapore operates and how instructors conduct their classes. These studios are usually also located in central business areas which are well developed. So I also managed to explore some malls and shops around the areas.

Spin Wise:

For any potential spin enthusiast reading, I tried out Journey Cycle and Fly Project and both were lovely experiences. I left both studios feeling uplifted and very inspired, despite my lack of sleep. I realise the more unassuming you are everywhere you go, the more space there is for you to be in awe.

I booked my classes on the Classpass app which credits I pay monthly is pretty universal. The app also has many other fitness studios you can choose from with a wide array of fitness classes. So if spin is not your cup of tea, I guess anything else on the app works too!

Along the way, I also came across this book - Think like a monk, which I stood there for a good 10 minutes reading. Came across one lesson - “Our search is never for a thing, but for the feeling we think the thing will give us”, food for thought.

3pm - Back to hostel for check-in

4-7pm - Exploring Chinatown and Central Market

It is a geat place to visit if you looking for a good knock off bag, purse, watch or item of clothing. Something interesting that I observed is that most of the store keepers were Bangaleshi instead of Chinese.

7pm - Dinner

8pm - Light show at Petrona Towers (FREE)

DAY 2️⃣: (HIKE UP BUKIT BROGA, NASI KANDAR!!, MASSAGE, BERJAYA TIMES SQUARE SHOPPING)

8am - Breakfast at hostel (free - included)

9am - Set off to Bukit Brogga for a hike (My car ride was about $18)

So yes, I did this crazy hike up the hill all by myself. Unfortunately, it had rained the morning, making the trail muddy and slippery.

Biggest mistake number 1 - Wore white shoes

Biggest mistake number 2 - Came alone (I would always highly recommend people to hike in groups. This was a pretty short day hike so it is pretty okay. However, when you go for longer hikes, it is important to have someone look out for you and possibly give you support both physically and mentally on more challenging routes.

Towards the end as I was descending from the hill, the path was just way too steep and slippery that at one point I kind of just slid down the hill with my expensive lululemon tights - Welps i had no choice…

12pm - Head back to accoms and shower (Car ride back was about another $18)

2pm - Lunch at Nasi Kandar

4pm - Massage nearby

6pm Head back to Berjaya Bus station for ride back to SG (SGD $35)

Highlights of the trip was definitely the hike up Bukit Brogga, as well as trying out different spin classes, which is one of my favourite workouts ever. I hope this helps in your trip planning to KL.

Signing off,

Sharlyn
