📱 Why I started taking social media breaks

- I was wasting hours each day scrolling through social media

- I felt empty, lethargic, and overstimulated

- My brain was fatigued from processing so many different kinds of content and videos in such short amounts of time

✨ How I feel when I’m off social media

- My mind is clear, and I feel calm and grounded

- I’m able to enjoy simple things like cooking food, taking breaks during work, going on walks, cleaning the house, and journaling

- I’m present to my own life journey rather than constantly thinking about how others are living their lives

- I feel a lot more genuinely grateful for who I am and everything I have in life

💭 Tips for taking a successful social media break

- Delete the app from your phone. This may sound self-explanatory, but I’ve definitely tried to take a break from social media while still having the app installed on my phone, and that obviously failed. Make sure to delete the app from your phone entirely!

- Try to take a social media break for more than 1 day. In my experience, the first day can be frustrating and unsettling because I’m not used to having nothing to constantly distract and entertain me all day. Day 2 starts to feel a little better, and day 3 is when I truly start to feel the benefits of being off social media! Try to aim for a week off of social media, and notice the difference that it makes.

- Brainstorm a list of things you want to do with the time you’ll save from not being on social media. Whenever you’re tempted to go on social media, refer to the list so that you immediately have things you can do with your time instead.

- At the end of your break, reflect on how it went. What benefits did you experience? What did you find challenging? How would you like your relationship with social media to look moving forward?
