After I gave birth to my baby, my life has changed—to the better. I never felt this kind of love before..it’s pure, it’s assuring, even though I just went through a major operation, I felt a surge of strength & love for the little one. Just like other mums, when I was pregnant I tried my best to plan on welcoming my baby and read a lot about the delivery. I watched a lot of Youtube—plenty of vlogs, what to buy etc. So I thought that I was well equipped with all the information that I need. But oh boy~there are still a lot of things that I didn’t know!

1) Breastfeeding is what makes postpartum harder

I was broken down many times in the middle of the night because of breastfeeding. You can see my previous post about ‘why I love breastfeeding’, and for me to love it today, takes a lot of effort and pain on the early stages. Back then, I didn’t know it was THAT hard. I thought the milk will naturally come out without much effort (silly I know 🤣) even on the first day after I gave birth, the nurse told me that my milk is there, it’s coming out, all is good. Which to my horror, my baby constant crying was because he didn’t get enough milk. I was wondering why my was baby always hungry lol 😂 after I knew that I need to work harder, pump more often to get the supply going, I thank Formula Milk for being exist while I focusing on pumping & how to latch baby correctly ☺️ so I recommend for mum to be to take a breastfeeding class, join the group, read more on breastfeeding.

2) Sleep deprivation is real

Many of our friends told us to sleep as much as we can during my pregnancy. Back then we were like “THAT hard meeeh?” 🤣 but omg, even until today I’m still sleep deprived sometimes. When we sleep deprived, our mood gets lower too and it makes us upset easily. For this one, there’s nothing we can do to be honest. You just need to go with it, hang on, it will take months of sleep deprivation. But don’t worry, once we become a mom, we can do anything for our baby! One thing for sure is I didn’t know that I’m this strong until I become a mom 😊

3) Learn how to burp a baby

Do not underestimate burping. I remember I had a hard time making my baby burp for almost 2hours in the middle of the night. He just couldn’t get soothed by my technique. Only then my mum came in to help, with her experience, she did it in a minute. I was shocked!! I spent almost 2hours trying to make him better, but my mum did it in a minute. What the…? And FYI, we need to burp baby after EVERY MEAL. Take note! Yeah, I didn’t know burping baby is so important 😂

4) Buy those cute newborn clothes

“No need to buy clothes for newborn laa, take from someone, cuz newborn grows so quickly”

No, I would buy those cute rompers, newborn clothes that I like. If I were to have 2nd baby, I would buy cute baby clothes. Yes baby grows so fast—it’s true, but because it’s fast, I regret not buying and take lots of photos with it.

5) I won’t buy a cot

Instead, I’ll buy a bassinet. The most useless thing that I bought is a cot! 😂 bassinet can be used until baby is around 4-6mths. At that age, I can already move him to my bed for a safe co-sleeping. I know some would say that baby is still infants and greater risk for SIDS.. but I know myself & my baby, I know how to make a safe sleeping arrangement & I think safe co-sleeping is still the best method for both me and my baby.

Come share with me what you wish you knew as a first time mom! 🫶🏻
