After not having to go through a finals week for an entire year, I forgot what it felt like to actually prepare for an exam. Itโs just the cherry on top that my exams are now law school exams, so theyโre just extremely hard and seemingly impossible to study for ๐ญ. After getting all my studying done and taking my exams, I feel like Iโve exhausted my entire brain for the rest of the year. Of course, this marks such a huge accomplishment for me but it still doesnโt change the fact that my brain feels like it was squished by a garbage compacter. Since itโs the start of winter break, I decided I was going to give myself a well-deserved self-care week and forget about all things law. Well, that is until grades come out but thatโs out of sight, out of mind right now. Hereโs what I did and, hopefully, this can give you inspiration on what to do on your very own self-care week!
(1) Treat Yourself
Whether itโs with my favorite foods, drinks, products, or new clothing items, the number one way I reward myself is with a little retail therapy. After accomplishing and finishing something so taxing, treating myself out to something is like a reward. Itโs like I just ran a 10k and got a medal at the end of the finish line LOL. Although I didnโt actually run a marathon, my brain does feel like it did some mental splits in order to keep me functioning during finals week. Anyways, a small (or big reward) to treat myself is a simple way I give my brain some much needed dopamine.
(2) Get Some Sun
After spending a majority of my time in a freezing classroom or a desolate library, I forgot what the sun felt like. Of course, I remember but I did not remember to actually ever go outside. My day to day was inside, moving from area to area. There were weeks where my entire day was spent inside school. Itโs easy to neglect yourself and forget to enjoy the little things, like some vitamin D. Having a self-care week doesnโt have to be about spending or going out and doing something crazy โ it can literally be walking outside and soaking up some sun!
(3) Sleep
I literally had the worst sleep and sleep schedule the week following and of finals. It was just hard to sleep when I had such a burden hanging on my shoulders. Catching up on all the missed sleep felt like a huge factory reset on my body. I believe sleep is the best medicine. My skin during finals week was atrociously dry and dead-looking and, oh my gosh, did a few hours of deep REM sleep really do the trick. Literally, all I did was put on a good movie and curl into bed. When I woke up, I felt like a brand new person. So, donโt forget to sleep!
