spending my gov payouts on a solo trip 🏝✨

I've been newly unemployed lately and there's nothing better to do with free time than travel. I've been keeping the payout money we've been getting recently ($850 + $300) (God bless) because I knew that when I quit my job, I would really need a break to recalibrate myself and lessen the noise in my brain.

here's a breakdown of my expenses for 4D3N:

accommodation: $318 (I splurged)

🌷 Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang - I am already an Accorplus member, so I know Accor hotels are safe. I would've gone with an Airbnb or something for a villa if I am not alone because cheaper and vibes

🌷 I booked a regular ocean view room, but I got upgraded to an ocean view room with a balcony

flight & insurance: $126

🌷 I took Scoot for Krisflyer miles

money I spent: $170

🌷 I spent about $30 per meal because I ate fresh seafood

🌷 bought a lot of famous Amos home

🌷 went to underwater world langkawi

🌷 incl. grab rides to/& from the airport

total expenditure: $614

with gov payouts: $0 (AKA free trip)

excess: $636

thoughts on solo travelling:

it was honestly so fun. I did a lot of things a lot more safely because I was alone, even if it required me to pay extra. my goal of the trip was to just sit at the beach, and people watch and read and were with my thoughts or whatever, and I achieved it. I truly understand now why people tell you to go visit nature and be one with it when your brain is messy. seeing a sunset in person while hearing the waves is unreal.

I'm usually easily overstimulated, and I use noise cancelling airpods to help me out with it, but I barely reached for them throughout my trip. I feel like that's honestly a good sign that the trip was working for me.

langkawi is also really safe - I didn't have to worry about people approaching me trying to scam me or needing to lie to strangers about what I am doing because they won't hurt me. the beach was also relatively empty, and I was always in my own bubble.

it got a bit lonely at times, and I was also surrounded with people on their honeymoon trips, so I was actually so fomo!!! but it honestly felt so nice at the same time to see people having fun with the people they love.

if you have money and time, please go for solo trips to places that are safe. if anything, this whole trip made me so much more comfortable with myself.
