Ellijay: Perfect Day Trip from Atlanta

Faraway destinations are cool, but don’t sleep on the charming small towns that are right in our backyards. I had the pleasure of visiting Ellijay, GA, a town located in the north Georgia mountains. We spent an afternoon exploring its lovely downtown, which is perfect for those doing a day trip from Atlanta! Here’s what I recommend to do during your visit:

🧀 Start off by stopping at Mountain View Artisanal. Get a custom charcuterie board and check out some of their cute, novelty gifts while you’re at it.

🍷 Next, take your charcuterie board over to 29 North Wine & Art. This wine bar serves all kinds of wines from local wineries (I loved some of the fruit wines) as well as beer. The wine bar also serves as an art gallery from artists based in North GA, so you can walk around admiring art while sipping on wine!

🛍️ Next, explore the many shops along the main square. Here are some I recommend: Mountain Treasures, Bavarian Chocolatier, Beauty Barre, Rustic Roots Boutique, Artful Ellijay, and The Trendy Leaf.

🍽️ Get dinner and a sunset view at The Roof Ellijay. This homey and hospitable restaurant serves delicious American fare and a full cocktail menu. We ordered the shrimp cakes, seasoned fries, smoked Gouda mac and cheese, and the flat iron steak. The best part about this restaurant are the mountain views from the rooftop. Make sure to get a seat up there!
