Give a Rabies vaccine with me

💉 As most of us know, rabies is transmitted through the bite of an animal infected with the virus. Rabies is a deadly virus that can cause cerebral dysfunction and abnormal behavior. The most specific symptom to rabies is hydrophobia (a fear of water). This is a later manifestation of the illness and by this point usually always leads to fatality.

🦇Prophylactic use of the rabies vaccine is usually not covered by insurance, making the shot cost thousands of dollars. However, after being bit by an animal you suspect is infected with rabies, insurance usually will cover the cost of the shot. Even if they don’t, getting the vaccine would be in your best interest because you don’t want to die.

🔪The other thing that is given with the vaccine is rabies immunoglobulin which is injected into the sites of the bites to “kill off” the rabies in the tissue. After injecting into the site of the bites the rest of the immunoglobulin is injected intramuscularly similar to the vaccine. I recently administered the rabies vaccine for the first time so most of this information comes from on the job experience.
