Having lived in Singapore for nearly 8 years, here are my tips:
1️⃣ Visit branded retail stores in malls
♻️ Drop them in the recycling bins provided
♻️ Zara, H&M, Cotton On, Uniqlo, Bershka, etc.
♻️ H&M offers vouchers in return, I believe it's a 15% discount
2️⃣ Pay attention to flyers at your doorstep
♻️ You might receive flyers from organizations collecting old clothes, furniture, etc.
♻️ They will notify you of the collection date and time
♻️ Simply place your clothes in a paper bag and leave it at your doorstep or hallway with the flyer on top or attached, and they will collect it
♻️ If you miss it, don’t worry! You can contact them, and they will come to collect it
3️⃣ Rent a stall at flea markets
♻️ In Singapore, there are flea markets like The Luggage Market & The Hammock Market
♻️ I tried booking a flea market slot online, but it showed available slots that couldn’t be booked
♻️ What’s the difference between The Hammock Market & The Luggage Market?
✅ No business license needed, just book a slot and set up your stall
✅ Locations are the same, but The Hammock Market is on Saturdays, The Luggage Market on Sundays
✅ Prices are about the same, $58++ (depending on whether you need a clothes rack, with a rack it's more expensive. For example, mine was $58 for a hammock and two chairs)
⚠️ The Hammock Market requires a substantial Instagram following, you need to fill in your Instagram details, hence more branded second-hand clothes and better quality items are sold there
⚠️ The Luggage Market attracts more customers quickly as many helpers are off on weekends and come with empty bags to shop, so items sell out fast!
⚠️ Stall allocation is random; stalls facing the main road have more business potential due to higher foot traffic, while those in the middle are narrower and attract fewer customers. It's all about luck!
⚠️ An hour before closing, vendors usually sell at the lowest prices, even as low as $1! So if you ask me whether it's better to come early or late, I’d say early birds get a better selection, but the last hour has the lowest prices
⚠️ If you're selling, the earlier you arrive, the better!
(Saturday) The busiest times are until 2pm, then again after 5pm
(Sunday) If you have a choice, pick Sunday
🔥 Just go online to book! The Luggage Market can be contacted via Instagram. They notify a day before opening, and slots for the four Sundays of the month sell out in less than a minute!
