I have had a long and complicated relationship with running. After being forced to run for my team sport, I now have moved onto running for my own personal fun, and I am even running the Boston Half Marathon in November! So here are some of the things I have learned that have helped me develop my running:
First and foremost: MUSIC is they key. A good beat can turn a day where you couldn’t run 1 mile to a day where you run 8 miles. Taylor Swift is always my go to. I also was surprised when I listened to a podcast on my last 6 mile run and it was so nice! I think this tool works so well because running is such a mental game, and anything to distract yourself will make it so much easier and more enjoyable.
Some other honorable mentions that have changed the running game for me are first: changing up your route! This also includes going from outdoor running to treadmill and vise versa. Again, running is a mental game, and switching it up can make things so much more interesting.
Second is taking it as SLOW as you need to. I love my runs where my splits are 10+, and I know no one is pressuring me into running faster than I feel comfortable with.
And last but not least, find running sneakers that feel SO GOOD on your feet. I love my Lululemon ones and they felt so good right away, but I have also heard great things about Hokas so check them out too!
