In order to maintain a stable blood supply in the Pacific Northwest it takes about 1000 daily donors willing to donate blood, platelets, and plasma.
What to expect:
Based off my experience with Bloodworks NW
- before you arrive
Eat a meal, drink water, and get enough sleep the night before. Make sure you are wearing short sleeves or a shirt that you can access you veins easily.
Bring a water bottle, book/entertainment, headphones, sweater to lay on your shoulders
- arrival
Go to the front desk and sign in! Have your ID & quick pass QR code ready for the person checking you in.
- check up with a collection specialist
Get your heart rate checked, iron levels checked, blood pressure checked
They do a mini checkup to make sure you are in good enough health to donate
Donating blood:
- quick 15 mins
Donating platelets:
- takes roughly 2.5 hours
- set up time is about 10 mins
- is a different process than donating blood
- before you leave
Rest, drink some water or juice, grab a snack
