📸📸I've always enjoyed taking film photos ever since the trend had arisen and i still do until now, because there is something about the concept of film photography that seems so peaceful and such a minute part of an experience but yet captures the most.

Travelling with film can be tough the main concern being whether the film would be damaged during transit especially with the many xray checks !

After having travelled to 3 countries with film now here are MY tips to getting the highest quality photos out of your film overseas 🌊🌊🌊

📍Opt for film rolls of ISO 400 or lower ✈️✈️

- with a lower ISO you do tend to compromise the higher quality photos but at not too big of an expense

- when i travelled to korea I had brought ISO 200 film and the photos turned out as above

- this is because airport xray machines do have a standard of around 800ISO damage

--> do take into account however that it is similar to an addition of the 2 scans, to and from. hence scanning an ISO400 film twice would be hitting the max before any severe damage might be seen.

- if you think you will have many security xrays i woild opt for a lower iso

‼️ you can always ask for hand checks ! but that would be based on the queue lengths and if your airport staff is nice (some countries mandate going through the scanner too) hence i usually go for the paiseh route and stick to lower iso film

📍 Take more photos in the daylight ☀️☀️

- this is pretty self explanatory as lower iso would also mean lower light sensitivity so photos in the dark may not turn out as well !

- or opt for using an additional light source other than your film camera's flash especially if you are using a lower end disposable

📍 Fujifilm > Kodak 📸📸

- this is from my experience with both kodak and fujifilm iso200 film and it may vary between isos/rolls

- when i had used kodak i found that the photos turned out more grainy and were more prone to light leaks and damage even when they were well under the iso limit while fujifilm did not

- the photos above were taken with fujifilm iso200 film

- but of course all this is up to personal preference!

📍 NEVER CHECK IN YOUR FILM 😵‍💫😵‍💫

- due to security reasons all checked baggage also undergo their own security scans at airports; since more items are allowed in check in, the airport xrays for checked baggage are MUCH stronger and different airports with varying strength so it is hard to determine ! my film in checked were severely damaged hence i would strongly discourage!

📍EXTRA TIP 😋😋

- singapore xrays are actually relatively safe now after the pandemic,, and are labelled with (filmsafe) on their xray machines !

- however other countries may not be as updated or guaranteed hence you should take account both country's rules and specs !!

thank you 🫶🏼🫶🏼
