TYPE 1 vs. TYPE 2 DIABETES

In both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, the body doesn’t regulate blood sugar correctly

As a nursing student and a future nurse it’s really important to understand the difference between the two

Key things to know:

1️⃣Type 1

☞Pancreas makes little to no insulin

☞Due to genetics and usually diagnosed early in childhood (but can also be diagnosed later!)

2️⃣Type 2

☞Pancreas makes insulin, but body becomees RESISTANT to it

☞Can be caused by multiple factors like hypertension, diet, hyperlipidemia, and family history

The symptoms will be the SAME for both, remember it from the 3 P’s:

🚽Polyuria= increased urination

💧Polydipsia= increased thirst

🤤Polyphagia= increased hunger
