Why is Singapore so hot recently?

Have you realised that it has been unbearably hot in Singapore lately?

Apart from the ongoing climate change we are already facing, we are also experiencing El Niño, a complex weather pattern that occurs every 2-7 years.

El Niño can be described as the warming of sea surface temperatures in the central and east Pacific. As a result of this, evaporation and rainfall increase there but decrease here in Singapore.

This is why we observe such clear skies with scarce clouds and have the sun directly beating down on us.

El Niño typically lasts 9-12 months, and the rise in global average temperatures it is bringing with it significantly increases the risk of heatwaves, droughts and floods.

It remains a worldwide effort to reduce our carbon footprint, promote sustainable living and care for the environment.

In the meantime, do stay hydrated and seek shade when needed to avoid heat-related injuries!
