I have been frugal with my spending since I was young, and I have always saved more than 50% of my income by careful budgeting and spending. sharing my auntie ways to save as much money as I can a month! πŸ€“

πŸ“± Mobile Plan Optimization

I recently switched my mobile data plan from VIVIFI $11.50 for 100GB plan to Circles.Life $10 for 101GB plan (1GB of it is roaming in Malaysia). This way, I get to save $1.50 on the mobile plan itself and $2-4 for my monthly JB trips. It’s a small difference, but the cost adds up!

🌎 Make use of global subscriptions

A hack for your monthly subscription is to use a Global subscription instead of Singapore based subscription. Because of currency differences, I was able to get my Spotify subscription at $2 a month (paying annually) vs $7 a month by being on the Singapore Duo plan.

πŸ‘©β€πŸ« Reassess Insurance Coverage

Getting Term insurance allows me to invest the additional money I saved vs. Whole Life Insurance. As I know how to manage my money, I don’t have to opt for Life Insurance, which has dollar value tied to it.

I also signed my insurance package when there was a perpetual premium discount, so that was a really good time for me to change my plan!

This small change allowed me to have substantial savings over time while maintaining the same coverage.

♻️ Embrace underconsumption

My boss recently asked me how many pairs of shoes I own. I wear the same 2 pairs of shoes every day, and this minimises waste and contributes to a more sustainable lifestyle. I don’t buy a whole range of different shoes that I hardly wear. I also have a capsule wardrobe that I mix and match - I don’t care whether people say I re-wear my clothes. If you see my social media posts I’m constantly wearing the same few things 😝

This helps me save money and appreciate what I already own.

** However, I don’t thrift in Singapore as I feel it’s a scam - people buy on Taobao and sell them as β€œvintage’”… ugh

πŸ’° Finding cheaper alternatives

Before I purchase something, I always reverse image search on Taobao or head to JB to buy things that Singaporeans would have currency advantage over. e.g. contact lenses. This allows me to save about $200 on my contact lenses each time or $20ish on cafe visits.

hope this helps you save even more money so you can channel your money to work for you πŸ₯°πŸ€‘
