for context, im from a jc with single digit cop (not sure if we’re considered mid/high tier…) at As, I managed to get A 20RP JUMP from prelims to land myself in the 80+ range! so what were things that worked for me and what didn’t?

1️⃣ study timer apps

✔️ keeps you conscious of your break times

❌ could add onto your stress esp during burn outs

for me, I used ypt which majority of my schoolmates actually used too, and I like that it kept me off my phone! but I chose not to form “study groups” on the app with my classmates because I know I would feel terrible about my hours unnecessarily, and peer pressure is smth I cannot handle 😅😅 instead, I formed a “group” with just one close friend of mine so we could motivate each other and it doesn’t feel like a competition!

2️⃣ finding out what consults worked for me

(personally)

✔️ group consults

❌ solo consults

after prelims is when everyone is crazily booking consults with teachers to the point I even had to beg a teacher to open a slot for my friends and I late afternoon because all the slots were booked way too fast 🥲 I’ve come to realise the good in going consults with friends because everyone learns from each other’s questions and you can even split, let’s say essay questions, and learn how to answer more types instead of just a few, which would have been the case if i went for solo consults.

the catch, however, would be choosing the right people to go with. personally I felt that I learnt the most from going consults with friends of similar academic standards to me, and friends im comfortable to struggle in front of. (don’t we all have that one friend who is way too smart for us to even show our horrible standards to…)

3️⃣ finding the right study method for EACH subject

would you believe if I told you I didn’t touch a single tys for econs and gp but still managed to get A for both of them? this is bc for these 2 subjs, practising using other schools’ prelims were more beneficial!

when As draw near, you really can’t fit all kinds of practices into such a short time so it’s crucial to choose WHICH practice you do! unlike for sciences, subjs like econs and gp would never ask the same qns as past years, plus we all know that the answer keys provided are not the most accurate 😥 so these are my study methods for each subject:

Econs: other schools’ prelims (under timed conditions) + consults

Math: TYS + consults

Lit: essay plans + consults

Chem: TYS + daily revision of content + consults

GP: wide research for p1 + consolidation of mistakes and qn types for p2

I might delve deeper if there’s interest but these are mainly how I improved each subject tremendously, and as always, CONSISTENCY IS KEY 🔑

if you are j2 now, there’s still plenty of time, but the runway is short! start consolidating your content be it through notes etc and revise your j1 content as you go along the year! don’t be too demoralised by bad results… bc tough times don’t last, tough people do! if anything, you can alws feel free to drop me a text~ sending over hugs and well wishes on your As journey 🤍🤍
