it’s been like what 3 years or something since i ended my A levels and i’ve just completely forgotten how hard i mugged for this until i glanced upon an old reddit post i uploaded right when i got my results back in 2021 and thought i might want to share that same advice here with everyone as well!

👩‍🎓 background

i wouldn’t say that i was a student that was failing every exam but i was definitely not excelling at any exams AHAHAHAHA was struggling to pass all my exams and even up till prelims my grades only managed a 63.5 RP and i was still literally barely passing GP…

here are just some tips(?) or more of my experiences that i believed really helped in building my journey towards A Levels although i would never ever want to relive that period of my life ever again

🏒 balancing health and studies

- i was in floorball so we had trainings twice a week and it was a really fun distraction from studies because i got to sweat out my frustrations and also yap with my cca mates during trainings

- most of the time otherwise i was mainly just studying and sitting down as well so sports was the best way to get me moving about

👯‍♀️ enjoy small moments or breaks between studying

- i enjoyed taking small walks in between studying and even just sitting down somewhere random to just talk for an hour or so about absolutely nothing

- especially during meals, it is the best time to yap my heart out so that i can release all the boredom i feel when studying

📈 staying positive and maintaining your pace

- i only started actually properly studying for A Levels in August which i think is quite late compared to many others but i felt that it was the right amount of time for me

- i took 3 H2 and 1 H1 and i liked to alternate between my subjects because i took a hybrid combination! if i was tired from literature i would take a look at chemistry and if i was tired from math id take a look at econs~ this break allowed me to maintain my studying pace because i wasn’t trying to shove 18 hours of chemistry down my throat

- most of my exams came back with mediocre scores and i also saw others doing much better and progressing quickly but i always told myself i still had time and continued to pace myself

- i had friends that burnt out severely in start october because they were coming to school at 7am and leaving at 10pm everyday since july… make sure that you take time to rest and especially make time for other things so that you can still keep sane during the A Levels prep

📑 study plan

- i started to make to do lists generically for my subjects on a more high level basis, so i just had a list of things i wanted to complete on a weekly basis so i wouldn’t feel pressured by it

- closer to A Levels then i made clear cut to do lists with timings so that i will feel motivated to complete the tasks by the allocated timings

🙇🏻‍♀️ switch up study locations

- i get super sick of studying in one spot very easily… i was in the nyjc library for like 2 months straight and i started getting super sick of it so i went out to alternative study places such as NLB, Starbucks and other locations

- it can get really depressing and stuffy when you study at the same seat/location everyday because life feels mundane and a new location helps me remain motivated

🙋🏻‍♀️ ask questions

- ever since i lost that shame of asking a stupid question, my learning in class improved so much. i used to keep questions to myself so i could figure it out after lessons myself in case it was a stupid question but at one point i decided to just clarify it immediately. afterwards i felt that classes became much clearer and i also gained greater confidence in class!

- even if you’re a little shy to ask questions in front of everyone in class you could always approach teachers when classes end to clarify

- always clarify because you’re definitely going to forget that you didn’t understand this one concept when you’re back at home hahahahah

wow that’s quite a lot. anyways the most important thing is that eventually all grades don’t matter anymore. jc is a mere stepping stone into university and upon entering university, no one even talks about their jc grades anymore (even gpa isn’t that important anymore oops)! take things lightly and easy and keep at your own pace ❤️ now should be quite the tough time for jc students and all i can say is that it will all end before you know it
