my worst internship experience💢

ps: this was 1 year ago , during my polytechnic internship attachment 👀

context: 2.5months attachment under business dev team

throwback to may23, when i first received my placement location i was initially really happy as i looked forward to the opportunities that awaits me at this company as i felt that they are quite out there. but i was wrong ....

1st incident: this was during day1, was introduced by another manager as my supervisor was still otw to work~ he then brief me about what i can expect as i start my intern journey with them. right after that brief, he sent me a copy of an excel sheet of their company's videos and told me to do a report on them WITHOUT context... so i generate based on? and they just disappeared to their meeting and i didnt even have a proper introduction to what to do 😭

2nd incident: i was asking around for wifi password as i have been using my own data for the past week. just nice, the tech team shifted to the tables behind me so i turned around and asked them for wifi access. GUESS WHAT? the staff replied to me: "For what? What do u need the wifi for?" 🤯🤯 erm...... to access the internet to do my intern work and reply to customers? instead of helping me with the wifi, they proceeded to tell me off and asked me to use the GUEST wifi instead , which requires sign in every day and it takes very long to access it. 😫😫 i'm just an underpaid intern, wifi also dw give me!

3rd incident: i was told by my school that i'll be working under this supervisor. but then she was already working with another intern and i was thrown to this new manager to work with her. & then again, no proper introduction no nothing..... this miscommunication was already a red flag 🚩🚩🚩

4th incident: whilst working under this new staff, i was told to create decks (presentations) about how to improve the company. honestly, can i say, the scope of this deck is so ridiculous..... i remembered 1 project i had to research about which left me in shock cuz it sounded so dumb. she told me to research and present to her whether this "$" sign should be placed outside or inside a text box on a website. and why?

( if udk what i meant, if u search those money calculator, you will be required to key in your value in a text box. beside the box, on the left exterior, there will be a dollar sign )

this wasn't the only strange research i had to do...

5th incident: i always follow for monthly lunch with the team and we wld eat at some atas place. so on other days where i dont want to follow to eat at such places often, i always get takeaway from the kopitiam nearby... the staff i worked under asked if i wanted to join them for lunch , i rejected because i already bought food? so i sat in the office to eat. 2 weeks later was my intern evaluation. i was on 1-1 with the main supervisor and she gave me my feedback for the first 6 weeks. there was a "6/10" score that caught my eye. i read the remarks. i was dumbfounded. the remarks she gave was: "I dont follow the team to eat lunch." ?! I understand that sometimes i dont... but i'm earning peanuts and having to follow to such atas places is a no go??? idh that much to spend on lunch everyday 😐

6th incident: fast forward to almost end of my internship. the grading period ✨✨✨✨

it was during the monthly lunch time when we all sat tgt and eat. then my supervisor was talking about us intern experience and this was where i found out about some miscommunications.... they thought we were university students as there is no such thing as a diploma student in Indonesia (my supervisor & staff were Indonesian) ... so the whole time they were judging and grading us based on university expectations and rubrics. which i thought is strange? because this isn't the first time my school partnered with them. they SHOULD know i'm clearly from Nanyang Polytechnic or at least research what is polytechnic?

and when i received my grades.... TO MY HORROR, i got my first ever C+.......... i felt unfair, misjudged and all these miscommunication added up to that C+ which brought my gpa down from a high 3.6 ;"(

i told my poly's lecturer and he said he cant change anything as that was the grade the company provided ...

well........ i'm glad to still be able to pull up my gpa and grateful that i still get to study in ntu 🎢🎢🎢
