Am I terrible for treating my employer like this?

I recently joined a new company and tendered my resignation after 1 week.

Prior to accepting the job, I had reservations and spoke to the hiring manager about it but they assured me that all is good. My concerns were raised after the second interview whereby the director told me that a previous employee left the company as she was consuming sleeping pills and under alot of stress.

But my direct hiring manager assured me that they would keep the work manageable.

As I was working in a HR role, I was exposed to the company’s internal and confidential process. I was quite shock at how they handled certain matters and didn’t exercise much disclosure in their duties. Hence I decided to tender my resignation.

Despite only working there for exactly a week, they demanded me to serve my 2 weeks notice as per contractual obligations. In addition, I was passed roles that were extremely difficult to hire due to budget reasons. And I had a 2 week window to complete the task and perform a handover on my last day.

During the 2 weeks, I felt like there wasn’t enough training and I was mainly doing cold calling to perspective candidates. But of course, due to the internal requirements set I did not accomplish much.

In the last week, I unfortunately fell sick and was given 2 days of sick leave from a doctor. When I was sick my boss texted me to tell me that I am supposed to inform and send a calendar invite the WHOLE department that I’m on MC and wanted me to submit my MC slip asap.

Today is my last day and I was reprimanded for being late for 8 mins. The company is on a flexi schedule and I entered the office at 9:38, just 2 minutes after I received the text. My boss wasn’t in the office on my last day.

I gave up and returned my laptop and staff pass and sent an email out detailing my handover duties.

As of now I’m bombarded with calls and messages to tell me I’m an irresponsible person as I did not stay for the full working day. As such, I would only be paid half a day’s salary on my last day.

This experience has left me emotionally jaded.
