How I double my pay in 4 years 💰

I have since past the doubled pay range & I am in my 8th year of working since graduation. Sharing here some tips on how I manage to do so while changing industry!

Background: I graduated from NTU Statistics Degree, and switched career / jobs a few times from Data Analytics, then Sales to E-commerce & Marketing.

Even though I changed industries between jobs, the soft & hard skills I have acquired remained useful & applicable in my next job.

Here are 3 tips based on my experiences:

📌 Change jobs while you are young (& child less)

Usual pay increment within the same company / job is 3-5%, while changing job could garner pay jump typically 10-20%! You will also gain different experiences & skills.

📌 Increase your value to company by mastering high level skill sets

For example, team management, proposals & pitching, data analytics & industry connections! Such skills & experiences do not come immediately but it’s an accumulation of your work experience & hard work over time. With these high level skill sets, you can bring more value to the company hence you would be compensated with higher pay!

📌 Plan your career progression

Always keep a lookout for opportunities & know your worth. Some of the companies have more budget to hire & they are usually MNCs, so work your way there! Look at the JDs even if you are not planning to leave current job & learn the required skills first (if you are lacking). It’s important to know your end goal and work towards acquiring the skills to reach your goal. Sometimes it’s about luck, a lot of time it’s about being ready & grabbing those opportunities!
