WANNA SPEAK CAT LANGUAGE?? READ THIS!!

helluu guys if yall have been following my journey yall would have known that i got my dream job at a CAT CAFE!! and before i joined i thought i knew alot about cat behaviour… but my past 3 months working here have truly HUMBLED me and i realised that there’s so much more that i didn’t know about!! so today i’m gonna share some tips and fun facts with you guys so yall can hopefully understand cats a little bit more ^.^ and DISCLAIMER im not super super super experienced yet so i cannot guarantee 100% accuracy because some are from what i’ve learnt at the cat cafe while others are from my observations but i’m confident at least 95% is true!! SO LET’S GO GUYS

1. if a cat is lashing its tail, STOP WHATEVER YOU’RE DOING

a cat lashing its tail violently indicates that they’re overstimulated/annoyed so stop patting them/chasing them etc or whatever you’re doing. give them a break cuz they’re telling you to stop!! if you don’t you better watch out cuz the next thing you know you’re gonna get slapped by them! or bitten! so better back off before they do hehe ;)

2. cats play fight!

the cats at the cat cafe love to play fight but somehow customers always think that they’re real fighting?? WHICH CAN GET SO ANNOYING TBH cuz i tell them oh no they’re just playing and they’ll look at me accusingly LIKE AS IF IM NOT THE ONE WORKING HERE… but yea unless they’re hissing or yowling or their ears are laid flat most likely they’re just playing so LET THEM HAVE FUN. only attempt to separate them once they start hissing or their claws are out

3. cats blinking their eyes slowly

if you’re petting a cat and they blink their eyes slowly at you, most likely they’re feeling comfortable and happy! so don’t stop and they might just fall alseep 😴😴 i also read somewhere that if your cat blinks slowly at you its an indication that they love you and feel safe with you?? and i even read that blinking right back tells them that you love them too BUT im not sure how true that is AHAHAHA so take that with a pinch of salt!

4. furballs

omg this is apparently a very common thing but i didn’t know anything about it prior to working here?? so apparently many cats (especially longhairs) might accidentally ingest their hair while grooming themselves which results in them having to throw up these furballs once in awhile. so if you see your cat crouched in a corner and retching or gagging don’t be alarmed!! give them space to get rid of the furball and help them to wipe it up afterwards. they’re not sick don’t worry!

5. big movements

if there’s one thing cats HATE besides water it’s loud and big movements. which is also why they run away from kids cuz kids are both loud and rough HAHAHAH.. so be gentle and quiet around them and they’ll feel more comfortable approaching you! treat them kindly and let them sniff your hand before you pet them so that they get to know you first. patience is really the key with cats!!
