WORKING IN A FEMALE-DOMINATED WORKPLACE? 🤔🍒

HEYYYY, it’s ya girl back with another intern diaries post. 😎

Recently, I've been seeing posts about girls' experiences working in a male-dominated field and wanted to chime in from the other side! 🔍

Here’s some interesting stuff I’ve noticed from my internships at female-dominated workplaces 👀 (and I mean 100% female LOL). Hope this’ll help y'all consider what industry to venture into :-)

1️⃣ Supportive Culture

It's usually a collaborative environment! I find that women are more likely to uplift and gas each other up. 🥹 Surprised at how nice everyone is fr… no office politics. 🙏🏻 We even have cute debriefings to celebrate our wins for the week and have the same interests so it’s easy to bond hahaha. Like you can invite them for pottery, pilates and other fun stuff. 😊

2️⃣ More Flexibility

They often prioritise work-life balance and may offer more flexibility in terms of working hours or remote work options. I think there’s more of a focus on family and there isn't an OT culture 🥹 There’s more autonomy so I think this is an important point to consider if you hate micromanaging LOL.

1️⃣ Paggro

Passive aggressiveness may stem from the fact that women are conditioned to avoid conflict instead of address issues head-on. 😞 I don’t encounter this in my workplace but I’ve heard that others make snide comments behind your back but are nice to your face! Might depend on the culture tho.

3️⃣ Having to choose your words carefully

I find myself being conscious about the way I word stuff in case people get offended. 😣 I realised that people are also reluctant to speak plainly! So they use nicer terms like “XX left the team” > “XX was fired” which was interesting. Sometimes people would choose to stay quiet so they don't rock the boat.

At the end of the day, what really matters is the people you work with and the work you're doing! So don't let stereotypes hold you back!!
