why we will NEVER co-sleep with our babies

while co-sleeping is the norm in a lot of cultures, here in the us you’re almost guaranteed to be urged by your doctors to have your child sleep in their own safe space. however, more and more i’m seeing moms decide to have their babies in their bed with them.

while there are ways to make co-sleeping safer (the safe sleep 7!) it’s something that we cannot get down with.

when our oldest was a baby he liked to wake up at about 5am and want to snuggle. we tried cosleeping in those early mornings with him, and we just couldn’t do it. he would lay asleep in our bed and i would just stare at him, unable to fall back asleep myself for fear of one of us rolling on him. i know that i wouldn’t be able to live with myself if something happened to my baby that would have been easily preventable if we just didn’t bring him into our bed.

another really important reason to us is independence for our baby! a lot (not all) of people who cosleep struggle to get their child out of their bed and into their own when they’re ready to make that transition. if our babies are never dependent on us being in bed with them, the transition to their own room is so much easier.

if you choose to co-sleep, that’s your choice to make as a parent! please do so safely :)
