I’ve been wanting to visit Sevens Kissaten, a quaint and clean Japanese tea house/cafe, for the longest time - so I finally got the chance to do so when Ian and I went to a spin class in the area! Being the kiasu Singaporean I was, I wanted to get there early in case there was a queue. Surprisingly - there was none. And the place was still pretty empty at 1pm.

Let’s #SpillTheTea on what this minimalist Japanese cafe is really like!

Noteworthy Dishes:

🍱 7s Omakase Set - $38, 4/5

This was a modern take on the traditional Japanese kaiseki of small dishes, which also has different textures, temperatures and of course, taste. We enjoyed the cod fish the most and had fun trying out the various dishes - great for someone like me who needs variety in her meals.

🍵 Matcha Coconut Macchiato - $8, 3/5

I had matcha with coconut water back at Keijometo in Johor Bahru, so I thought this would have a similar taste! Turns out, they used bottled coconut water here instead of fresh, which gave off a weird flavour that I didn’t enjoy. It was topped off with a really sweet and thick macchiato cream which somehow complemented the drink nicely.

We also ordered an angelhair pasta that was pretty tasteless, and a yummy Momo Sencha (white peach tea) that was very light with bold flavours. I know, you have to try it to see what I mean!

Sevens Kissaten was right opposite the famous (and busy) Tiong Bahru market so if you’re not full, you can pop right over for some snacks 😂 Overall, we won’t be back for the food because it was either pricey or disappointing, BUT we’d love to go back to try different teas and for the calming ambience. We totally enjoyed the quiet atmosphere there at 11am on a Saturday morning.
