I did a water fast for 48 hours and here’s what happened. For those of you that are unfamiliar with a water fast is, it’s when you only consume water for that period of time as a way to cleanse spiritually or for medical reasons. Fasting has so many amazing benefits and is great for a lot of reasons.
Benefits of water fasting:
* May improve blood sugar levels — fasting might help lower blood sugar levels by boosting insulin sensitivity,
* Promotes Autophagy
* Helps with inflammation
The second half of the first 24 hours was the hardest mentally. At this point your body does feel hungry and temptation is real. I decided to distract myself by watching some of my favorite shows, getting some work done on the laptop and even catching up with friends. During the second day, I felt AMAZING. I had never experienced such high energy levels first thing in the morning. By the end of it, I felt better than ever!
It’s important to remember that fasting isnt for everyone. If you’re participating in a water fast, I highly recommend adding lemon and salt to your water to help add electrolytes in!
