i have been seeing these bagel recipes made with mainly greek yogurt and flour and was really intrigued 😮 this recipe isn’t your typically bread-like bagel made with yeast so i was a little skeptical on how it would turn out 🙃
my verdict:
this isn’t really like your typical bagel BUT i would say it’s a GREAT substitute if you want a higher protein alternative or if you are just lazy to go find some legit bagels 🥲 these bagels are slightly on the denser side but tbvh you can’t really tell when eaten with toppings such as eggs, smoked salmon etc. overall i would definitely make these again as they are so simple, easy and definitely higher in protein compared to traditional ones
what you need (makes 3):
- 180g self raising flour (you will need for to dust your surface)
- 180g greek yogurt
- 1 egg (for brushing over the bagels)
- salt
instructions:
1. combine the flour and greek yogurt, roughly mix it together with a spoon and then use your hand to knead it till combined and smooth
2. transfer the dough onto a surface with flour, split the dough into 3 parts and shape into a bagel by poking your finger through the middle
3. crack an egg into a bowl, mix well and with this mixture, brush some on top of the bagels
4. sprinkle some salt on top of the bagels
5. bake for 23-25 mins at 180C
