This is part 3 of my cutting tips!

Cutting calories and increasing expenditure can be a HEAD. TRIP.

Especially once you start seeing your body get a bit smaller, you wonder if you’re losing strength while you become leaner. The reality of the situation is that your muscles have energy in them too. Your body will use some of that if you’re not fueling properly (which is what we don’t want).

Inevitably- this will happen to some degree. But there are ways to minimize it and increase your strength as much as possible even though you’re in a cut.

TIP ONE:

One way I do that is by cycling carbs. On days that I know I have strength training- I place my high carb days the one before that. This helps me feel strong in my lift and be able to use the same amount of weight and really push myself.

TIP TWO:

Go as hard as you can. I used to be cautious of lifting as heavy as possible out of fear of being “bulky”. But if you’re in a cut and you are also increasing cardio- you HAVE to maintain that muscle mass. Or else there won’t be anything to show for it once your body fat drops. This creates the “skinny but not toned” look that you want to avoid if you’re trying to look lean!

I hit a 10 lb PR on bench today which was a huge win for me! So it can be done! You just have to give yourself grace, realize you’re in a tricky spot, and keep pushing.
