How to select an ideal unit?

As our queue number was within the no. of total units, it meant one very important thing… WE HAD A CHOICE. We knew we did not have to leave it to fate or wait around and see what’s leftover and choose from there. So the Mrs started to get busy and consulting people around us who were more experienced about the ideal stacks using the site map (e.g. how to see which stacks will kenna the afternoon sun and so on). So we started rank ordering the factors that were important to us in a house. We then eliminated blocks and stacks based on our ranked criteria. Sharing more details about these 2 main factors that I feel people should know about:

☀️ Afternoon sun - check the structures around the block. Sometimes, a unit that is facing the afternoon sun direction in the west may not get the afternoon sun heat because there are other tall buildings in between blocking.

📣 Noise - Low level units facing the main roads or bus stops are the worst (according to 👩🏻’s dad). When a road is busy, it will just be noisy 24/7 and even at night. Being near the bus stop also means you hear bus doors opening and closing (that psssst sound) constantly. So we only wanted units facing internally. We chose a stack that’s facing the pavilion downstairs so there is still some distance from the opposite block facing us.

Another point about noise is the coffee shop and supermarket. We didn’t want to be in the same block because of noise and smell. The cooking fumes from coffee shop can sometimes travel quite far.

🏢 Then came Feb 2018… it was so exciting to monitor the flat selection progress everyday and checking off units that were already taken. We eventually went to our unit selection appointment with at least 3 choices that day cos our appointment was in late morning.

Can’t remember what happened on that day exactly but we got our preferred stack and at a mid-high floor. But I do remember that a very high floor was not the most important to us so we went for a mid-high floor unit in our preferred blk/stack that checked more boxes than a 17th floor unit in another blk/stack which was still available during our appointment! Corner unit was also not important to us as 👩🏻 grew up in a unit that’s closest to the lift and it was not so bad!

So that marked the start of our long and gruelling 5+ years wait for our house to be built… we hope we can really collect our keys by May this year!
