Surviving Hurricane Helene

Hey Lemon8ers,

I’m sorry for not posting recently. I have not had any access to electricity or wifi due to hurricane Helene. I live in Swannanoa, NC and my home was damaged badly. It has been a journey and I have documented my experience on Tiktok but wanted to share with my lemon8 friends.

Days 1-2: No electricity, water, nor phone signal and running low on food. Trapped in the city due to severe damage to roads, property and landscapes due to sink holes, land slides, fallen trees, fallen debris (telephone poles, moved vehicles, etc). All highways to enter or exit WNC were impassible.

Days 3-6: No electricity, water, nor phone signal and running low on food. Search and Rescue across several counties. Search for resources such as good, water and gas. (The closest gas station with gas to my home was 45 min-1 hour away. Some people continued to be trapped in their home or lost due to flooding water and fallen debris (mainly trees).

Days 7-Current: Stock up on resources and supplies. More gas stations begin to open up. 90% of WNC regained power but officials don't think many places will have water again for several months. 😔

Day 9: My first REAL shower in 9 days. 😊 I felt so good and happy to finally get access to something I usually do daily. (Baby wipes have been my shower due to no running water available)

Although my city will never be the same. I’m blessed to have so much support and love from TikTok, Facebook and Lemon8. Thank you guys for being my friends 💕 Now lets pray for Florida. 🙏
