4 siblings & middle child syndrome?!

I have 4 siblings!

My older sister is 33 this year (10 years older), my brother is 30, and my 2 younger sisters are twins 21 this year. YES. IM THE MIDDLE CHILD. Here’s me debunking the good and the bad of growing up with a big family and my take on middle child syndrome🧐

After a quick google search on middle child syndrome, I can conclude that it does not apply to me🤣 the only trait that is probably applicable is “competitive” but even so I wouldn’t think it’s due to me being a middle child. Maybe because the age gap between me and my older siblings are quite big, that’s why I don’t really feel the effect of being a middle child.

That being said, I feel that I’m both the youngest sibling and oldest sibling at the same time. More often, I feel like the oldest sibling to my younger sisters, maybe because our age gap is closer we spend more time together as a trio, which makes me the oldest. I help them with things, give them (unsolicited) advices, and sometimes treat them food~ with my older siblings, I am still a little sister that needs to run errands for them and “listen” to them in a sense.

One of the great things about a big family is how lively the house is. There’s always chatter and gossip 🤭 and the house hardly is ever quiet 🤣. You also get a friend in a sibling and they are really like my besties 🤪 ALSOOOO there’s so many people we don’t have to worry about not having enough legs for mahjong 🀄️😛. Mahjong is one of our “bonding activity” and also a chance to increase our family fund since the winning goes into a pool💰. We also get to do secret Santa because we have a lot of people and higher chance of new santa/elf each year🎄

On the other hand, the biggest problem is space constraint 🤣 for a family of 7 we live in a 4 room HDB so needless to say it is a little squeezey 😔 we have to share rooms (actually that’s ok) but more of not having a space for our things. Because of that many bags and figurines are scattered which makes the house kinda messy too. ALSO it’s super hard to coordinate schedules to have a dinner during birthdays, much less a whole family holiday.

If you had a choice, would you rather have 4 siblings or be the only child? For me, i like the way it is now and cannot imagine my life without them ☺️
