Moms Supporting Moms

My husband and I decided to try attending a new church today. One right down the road from our house that we could walk to when it’s warmer.

Now, we’re both a little socially awkward so walking into an entirely new environment filled with strangers (especially now that we’re the adults and can’t hide behind our parents) was pretty intimidating for us. So we sat in the back, a few people came up to introduce themselves and to look at our baby and we had an overall pretty typical small town church experience.

Here’s what really made me feel welcome:

Towards the end of the service my son started to get fussy and needed to nurse so I hopped up and grabbed the diaper bag, ready to find a secluded spot to do so in. This was our first time really nursing out in public so I was nervous.

Out in the lobby a fellow mom was sitting with her own baby so I asked her if they had a nursing room and she immediately hopped up to help me find it. Just a few seconds after, another mom walked out of the sanctuary saying that she figured I was leaving to nurse and would need help locating their nursing room. Then another woman joined because we needed help getting the door unlocked. I felt surrounded by moms who knew what I, as a mom, needed and were completely ready to jump in and help a total stranger! It was very encouraging, especially with it being my first time around other moms since becoming one myself.
