Intrusive thoughts are common ways anxiety manifests itself. In my case, specifically with paranoid, intrusive thoughts. I used to have frequent thoughts that bad things would happen and almost everyday thought that I was going to die. I remember one day I was so deep in my paranoia that I believed that if I got up from bed to use the bathroom I would die from a heart attack or falling. Of course, talking about it now, this seems so irrational but in those moments I allowed these negative thoughts to control me and my life.
I learned about self talk and how vital it is in anxiety recovery specifically in dealing with intrusive thoughts. I began becoming aware of the narrative I was writing for myself and seeing how limiting and truly absurd some of these thoughts were. What has helped me tremendously is realizing I am not my thoughts and I have a choice to believe a bad thought or reframe it into a positive one. Learning how to control my mind saved me in so many ways and I hope sharing these steps will save someone too 💗
