The wedding planning journey has finally come to an end. It’s been a hectic few months with the wedding, our minimoon trip and moving into our new house.

After thoughts:

Ngl, it was really tiring. Really glad it’s all over.

Do I regret holding one? No, I had it the way I wanted a small wedding where we could thoroughly enjoy ourselves and interact with the guests. Guess what? I even had time to eat all courses😙

My most important takeaway is: marriage is only the beginning of a long journey ahead. Do not stress yourself out too much over a wedding!!

While many around me are getting married, I’ve also heard of some going through divorce. It got me thinking is there a right time to get married and I have come to conclusion that the below few points are important🤔

1. Emotionally ready

Ready to commit to a lifetime partner. Marriage is hard work. Living together entails supporting each other through tough times, making compromises, sharing the housework and most importantly to put in effort to make this lifetime “partnership”work. Pure love can only go that far. Remember that your partner is now your family!!!

2. Trust

Do you trust your partner to be faithful? Do you need your partner to report to you everywhere he goes?

3. Stability of the relationship/ Compatibility

Are you having doubts before the marriage? Setting deadlines? An advice is not to go ahead if you have the slightest doubt. Do you find yourself forgiving mistakes your partner made that compromise on your values? That person may not be for you. It is easily to overlook on such things but it can snowball into a huge issue once you enter marriage. Ask yourself, does your partner meet your expectations of a husband? Marriage is a lifetime commitment, do not ever think you can’t find someone better. Always love yourself first!!

4. Future plans (finances, family planning)

Do you align in terms of future goals?

5. Understanding of your partner

How well do you understand your partner? How was he brought up? Why does he sometimes react the way he does? What are his habits? This requires communication and spending time together day to day or going on trips together. Do not rush into this as this takes time. Without understanding, it’s easy to get into fights once you live together and see each other everyday.

Having spoken and observed people around me, this is just my two cents worth😁 What other factors do you think are important?
