What is Urology 👩🏾‍⚕️💕🩺

Urology is going to be the fifth specialty that I rotate through during my clinical year of medical school so let’s talk about what it entails. I will spend two weeks on this surgery sub specialty unit.

Urology is a part of medicine that focuses on the function and disorders of the urinary tract system. Urologist also focus on the health of the male reproductive system.

The urinary tract includes a persons bladder, kidneys, ureter, and urethra.

Some conditions at urologist tend to treat, include frequent urinary tract, infections, and inability to control, urination, painful, bladders, benign prosthetic hyperplasia, and blood in the urine.

They also focus on things such as erectile dysfunction, kidney stones, different types of cancers, and congenital urinary tract issues.

In order to become urologist in the United States of America, you will have to finish four years of medical school, and then go to a 5 to 6 year residency program. You can choose to sub specialize after that, and do a fellowship in urology if you desire.
