I ask this because my partner and I recent got a pup almost a month ago, he’s 19 weeks currently. And sometimes we truthfully regret getting him. Don’t get me wrong, we love him dearly, but it’s his mannerisms that are so exhausting… Yes, we know he’s a puppy, so he’s going to do some of these things. It’s the lack of improvement that makes us have second thoughts.

• He constantly finds things to chew on that he shouldn’t; chords, blankets, rugs, paper towels, trash, boxes, a dresser, bed sheets, etc. We have bought him countless toys so that way he has something else to chew on and a variety of textures. Any time he chews on something he’s not supposed to we tell him no and swap it for one of his toys. Sometimes he purposely walks past the toy we have in our hand and goes right back for the item we took, or something new. We repeat the process several times until it’s to the point where we can’t even sit down without him getting into something so we put him in his crate.

• He bites us. I’ll give credit where it’s due, he has gotten better at this one, but it’s still there. He will bite hair, faces, ears, hands, clothing. It’s not in a malicious way, we know he’s just excited. Since we got him we worked with him on not biting, or if he does, it has to be softer, and he’s made improvements. By t there has been times, with me especially, that he bites really hard and nearly breaks skin.

Those are the two main things that really cause issues in our everyday life with just trying to do basic tasks. We love him dearly, but a lot of the time he really annoys us and eventually we have to put him in his crate because he doesn’t stop no matter how many time we tell him no and redirect his attention. Classes aren’t an option because of the small town we live in. Closest one is over four hours away.

If you read all of this, thank you and please give advice if you have any…

UPDATE: First off thank you to everyone that made me feel less alone. Really helped me out with my guilt. <3

Secondly, he’s gotten MUCH better since this post was posted originally. Barely does anything listed. Just occasional things where he tests boundaries. :)
