As a fresh grad who's saving up, I'm not spending much each month and am unable to hit the minimum eligible retail spend to get cashback for many credit cards. Which is quite sad since cashback is basically free money.

I've been researching what cards I CAN get cashback from though, and thought to share them on lemon8 🍋 so others can benefit from it!

Benefits of no minimum spend cards —

💵 No stress of not hitting minimum spend in certain categories on certain cards in order to maximise your cashback (ain't nobody got time for that!)

💵 Credit cards usually only give cashback on retail spend (think dining out and shopping). But certain low-spend/no-spend cards offer cashback on common exemptions like insurance payments, education bills, tax and rental payments.

Downsides —

🤔 The most obvious downside of cashback is that they offer generally low cashback rates (<3%)

compared to cards with a minimum spend.

🤔 Even if they offer higher rates, those rates are usually reserved for selected merchants (fast food like McDonalds or KFC, or subscriptions like Netflix and Spotify).

Here’s the cards I’m planning to get —

⭐ HSBC Revolution (2.5% online/contactless)

⭐ SC SMART (6% on public transport)

EDIT: SC has a SC EasyBill Payment Programme which allows one to get cashback on general exclusions such as insurance, HOWEVER the cost of using Easybill exceeds the cashback rate provided by SimplyCash!
