Ultimate guide for driving in jeju, South Korea 🚗

My friend and I took turns driving in jeju and I just wanted to share my experience and some tips/ things to note!

Firstly you need an international driving permit (IDP) to drive overseas costs about $20-25 SGD

‼️I got mine with less than 1yr of driving experience

How was it?

✿ my friend drove on the first day and I took over on the second day so having him “test” it out first made me feel a lot more confident

✿ the cars in jeju are wayy easier to drive imo 🚗

Overall the cars there are really small! (There are even special parking lots for even smaller sized cars)

✿ driving on the left side (opposite of Singapore!!)

it came really naturally to me⁉️ HAHAH idk why but j rmb to always align to the side you’re driving

✿ you can drive really slowly 🐢

this really helps when you first start as the avg speed is about 50km/h

Other impt things to note:

❀ speed cameras are everywhere!!! 🏎️📸

there are many signs showing the upcoming cameras and the speed limit so don’t get fined!

❀ discretionary right turns🚦↗️

you can turn right at red lights provided the pathway is clear (if you’re unsure follow the car in front of you 🤭)

❀ take note of the parking lots!

some parking lots have the “경차” symbol meaning it’s meant for light cars which are smaller and more eco friendly while you could park there, the lots are extra small and suuuper hard to get into esp if you’re between 2 cars so try and look for bigger parking lots

❀ use Waze 🛣️📍

while google maps isn’t great in Korea, Waze works suuuper well! you can also use your car gps but it may be in Korean only like mine 😖

❀ avoid driving when it’s rly dark 🌘💡

there aren’t many street lights so you only have your high beam light 🫣😖 esp because you may have to take some routes where it’s just a one way dirt road
